"The Flash" Solo Film Confirmed

After constant delays and production shifts since being announced in 2014, The Flash is finally set to release July 1, 2022. Following the less-than-impressive Justice League, Andrés Muschietti teased The Flash storyline will be a “different version of Flashpoint than you’re expecting”, hinting at an altered DCEU universe.

The original comic mini-series, released in 2011, followed Barry Allen as he traveled back in time to prevent his mother’s murder. When he returns to his own time, he finds a drastically different world: one where Aquaman’s Atlantis is at war with Wonder Woman’s Amazon and where Thomas and Martha Wayne act as Batman and Joker, respectively.

A movie version of Flashpoint has the potential to serve the same function for the movies as it did for the comics, acting as a soft reboot for the franchise and “fixing” a lot of the DCEU’s current issues. Depending on Muschietti’s vision for the film, The Flash’s plot could single-handedly rebalance the DCEU’s tonal inconsistencies while creating the opportunity for differing versions of Batman and Superman in the future, and even explaining the upcoming Suicide Squad reboot.
