My name is Bear Walker; designer, maker, and seeker of adventure.
I can't remember a time growing up when I wasn’t in a workshop, woodworking with my Dad or creating something with friends. I’ve always had a passion for art and technology, but never imagined how deeply it would eventually intertwine with my love for craftsmanship.
I ended up getting accepted to my dream school, Clemson University, where I was able to hone my skills in graphic design and product development. It was one of my senior projects where I was given the task of designing a skateboard with innovative printing techniques… I ended up designing around 40, and I was hooked.
I bounced around for a few years at different jobs with skateboard design as just a hobby before I found my path. I was a prop fabricator for an events company, a sign maker, a book designer for Amazon… Until one day I was working on a sandblasted sign for a client and the light bulb went off: this would make awesome grip. About a week later the first thing resembling a Bear Walker board was born.
As soon as I rode it I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I can use my passion and creativity to make badass designs. I can use my love of technology to create innovative grip. I can use my craftsmanship to combine those into the highest quality skateboards on the planet. And my perfectionism made it so I could do it consistently. The part that surprised me is how much I would like to make them for people. Getting to hear people’s stories and ideas and embodying them into a piece of functional art has given me fulfillment and drive… it’s given me a dream job.
Long story short (kinda), Bear Walker Boards was the culmination of all of this. We use old-school design and craftsmanship to create premium boards, and modern technology to innovate and push the boundaries of what a skateboard should be.
We NEVER use grip tape. Our grip is strategically carved out of the wood itself to create more traction than standard grip tape, while also making a statement with a design that shows your individuality. We use high-quality shock pads, bushings, bearings, and wheels to ensure it’s a super smooth ride.
These things are built to ride… but more importantly, they’re built to last.
